Total Scam. They called saying that they have received an alert regarding a problem with my PC. When I questioned which company they were from the idiot said windows! Then I questioned again and stated how could I have a problem as my PC has been broken and off line for months. With that he just hung up! My line would not clear for a few minutes too.

The information is sold to the company by LeadX (did some research) best to email TPS service (assuming you are registered with them, free to do) (cant post it here - but search google for it apparently , when I spoke to other people, (who work in these areas) the information comes from usually websites where you are not unticking the "pass information onto thrid parties" section.

Lame Claim Guys
This is a company called the Claim Guys. They say they reclaim money owed to you from mis sold insurance. They said they had the phone number through their sister company Connections. The number is not a +20 code (i.e. Egypt) it is infact 0203 167 1196 and 0203 is the code for London. If you want to remove your number from telesales visit the Telephone Preference Service website tpsonline.org.uk

PPI claims scam
These people are a bunch of crooks fishing for info about your loan and insurance background so that they can scam you. They started the call (to my mobile) by saying that their sister company had already sent me an email "which shows that we're legitimate". He went on to ask me if I'd had a loan or credit card debt in the last 10 years.

Yesterday I answered to this number and got a lengthy spiel about debt management. I kept saying I wasn't interested and hung up. Since yesterday, they have called 13 times - now when I answer they hang up straight away. This is happening on my mobile, I have absolutely no idea how they got the number, but this is maddening. How to have fun with cold caller numbers
I have been contacted several times by this company, not long after wrighting to a credit reference company (For my credit score). Very annoying so now, l have set up a call divert on my phone, so when they ring again I divert the call to another numer ie number ten downing street or local police station, anywhere I choose but the numer must start 01,02 etc or back to their offices Have fun!!!

Cold Callers - How to deal with
I tend to leave my phone on answer phone all the time. The reason being that if the call is important i.e. Friends, Family or ongoing Business, the caller will normally leave a message, in which you can pickup as you identify them - Cold callers normally don't leave a message, therefore the call is not important. If everyone did this, I bet Cold Calling will be a thing of the past.

Pete, I can see a slight flaw here. People call you and get your answering machine, and you suggest everyone does this? If the person that rung you then doesn't answer the phone when you try to ring him back, it will take a long time to get through the conversation after you keep listening to each others messages.

I was actually really upset when they called me at my work one how on earth did they get my work number and 2 how on earth did they get my mobile number! I called the police straight away and they said. No One can ring you and say your being sued on 3 cases it has to be given to you by hand as the saying goes you have been served! Ridiculous amount of calls from this number which I usually miss whilst at work, and when you try to call back it just says "the claims guys tried to call you", and you can't even speak to someone to tell them to remove you from their list! How they got my number in the first place is also a mystery which I'd like to get to the bottom of. Getting extremely fed up!

Recently signed up for an ISA from cheshire building society, shortly after started receiving these calls. Reading the fine print it mentions "24.7 Cheshire Building Society forms part of the Cheshire Marketing Group (“the Marketing Group”), a list of whose members may be obtained from the Cheshire. The Marketing Group will use the information you have given for the administration of your account and for statistical analysis. The Marketing Group may also use your information for credit scoring, debt collection and fraud prevention." Coincidence? Hmmmm.....

Call Connections ...
They've been trying to call me on my mobile for about a week and a half now. Got me on my home phone today. Apparently they got my details from a company called 'call connections' who I phoned over 4 years ago. I told them to remove me from their database. I then called Call Connections who said they would also remove me and passed my complaint on to their compliance department. We will see what happens. As I was forewarned about who they were (thanks to this website!) I had a raft of questions ready for them, including asking them why they thought they knew anything about my financial position. Hopefully I was so clear as to my position they will recognise a lost cause when they see one and not call back! I also joined up with TPS last year and it has made a huge difference to the number of cold calls I get, so I would recommend it,
CGreen

Another call
Just had another call from this number. I've had enough of all the calls, not just from these but all the cold calling companies. I now just answer the phone and when I find out its one of these companies I just leave the phone connected and put it down. No hardship to me and after a few mins they have hung up. I do this every single time and eventually they will get the message and in the mean time its costing them to call me.

I just dont know how they have my mobile number, I never give it out, as normally cannot remember it, shows you how much I use my mobile, but they have it, the only up side of it is that when I am in the office my phone is on silent, so in essence they can call me until I am blue in the face. What I really love to happen is that when I am abroad obviously phoned not switched to silent that they give me call. So now I have two scammers on my case, one on my mobile and one on my office phone, what a world we live in.

I've had at least three so far - answered the last call and got a load of noise and the call cut off. Now I've marked the contact as 'spam' so I remember not to answer it. However. My friend is unemployed and was told to go off for an interview for a telemarketing job. He got the impression that the job was mainly cold-calling and was very very unwilling. The jobcentre told him he didn't have the luxury of refusing such a job should he be offered it. In the end when they called him back for a trial he told them about how he was a shop steward at the last employment and asked which union represented the workers at the call centre (ha! as if!). Funnily enough he didn't get the job which was a bit of a relief. I'm just saying in case anyone is tempted to be rude to the callers who perhaps have no option but to take the job...
