scam
They keep phoning my mobile and landline over and over. How thick do they think I am? But how do they know my name, my bank and both phone numbers?

This is not a scam, no account details are requested. It is just to verify recent transactions on my debit card were genuine.

Its a scam
Just spoke to Halifax after this number called this afternoon. Its not one of their numbers - don't call them back - just call Halifax direct on the number on the back of your card

Genuine
This is the Bank of Scotland Fraud Division. They pick up on a dodgy transaction and ring you. If you press the button for a dodgy transaction you are transferred to a call handler. They read out the dodgy transaction amounts etc. If you confirm dodgy ones then they mark these as fraud and you will not lose any money.

If you have dodgy transactions they also cancel your card and arrange for a replacement. They also supply you with a direct number to call. It is genuine and if you get a call from them then give them a call back.

Genuine. It's Halifax automated call if they have suspicious transactions. We phoned Halifax by their fraud protection line to confirm as don't like automated calls. If you ignore it a person will call you later anyway.

Genuine fraud protection
This is a genuine automated Halifax service. Normal Halifax services are separate from the fraud protection units so they can never tell you if the fraud department has tried to contact you. I just had to verify a transaction as I had been out of the country using my card abroad and it was the first time I'd used the account since being home so maybe to them it looked dodgy. It's really good they do it!

Foreign number?
After trying to draw two lots of £300 (max allowed) from my HBOS debit card, I got a call from 08453512293. An automated voice asked me to call them back. They gave an 0845 number and a "calling from abroad" number to call them back but I was not able to write them both down as I was in the street. Does anyone know the "calling from abroad" number as my mobile does not allow 08xx calls.

Not a scam
We received several calls to both mobile and landline from this number. I eventually contacted Halifax using the number on the back of my card. It was indeed a legitimate call. Someone had attempted to make a fraudulent transaction that morning. Hats off to The Halifax I say

THIS IS GENUINE - IGNORE COMMENTS SAYING OTHERWISE
This is Halifax's Fraud Department. I received a call from them yesterday, and was initially sceptical, and hung up on the automated message. "It" called back and left a voicemail, and reading the comments on this thread, I thought I should call back. Turns out there had been over £2,000 worth of fraudulent transactions on my card, and they were able to deal with it very quickly.

Not a Hoax-Has access to your recent transactions
It's an automated response to unusual (amount, location or frequency) transactions on your card. It will only ask you to verify your date of birth. You will then be read a number of transactions (information that only the authentic card issuer would have including transaction locations) and asks you to confirm that they are indeed yours). None of the information requested (i.e. Date of Birth) can be used to access your accounts, no passwords or other sensitive information are requested. If you dubious at all I suggest you contact your card issuer directly.

Seemed like a con to me
Had a couple of missed calls recently from this number asking me (automated voice) to ring them back on the same number regarding some irregularities on my Halifax account (no specifics). Answered their third attempt to speak to me yesterday and the same automated voice told me there had been some irregularities on my card ending 3014 and that I needed to key in some personal data such as my date of birth etc before the matter could be resolved. As I don't have a card ending 3014 with anyone I hung up the phone. And I would advise anyone else who gets a similar call to do the same. I have reported the matter to Halifax Security but not had a response yet.

Legit
Was called to verify payments on my account. Didn't ask for any personal other than year of birth and name. Glad they did as my card had been cloned and several illegal purchases attempted. If in doubt, just give the Halifax a call on one of their regualr numbers and I'm sure they will transfer you to the right department.

Genuine
Had the call after an online transaction using my debit card failed. I contacted Halifax customer services who confirmed it was the fraud dept. However I did point out that most people would probably think it was a hoax and that even if it was the Halifax, I would not give out personal info using telephone key pad and it would be far better for a ' real' person to make contact if they are checking up on fraudulent transactions

Genuine "anti-fraud" check from my bank
I had a failed transaction on one of my cards (attempted 3 times by me) - and the next day the Halifax "automated" call was made to me. Missed the call but an automated message was left for me to call back. No bank details were requested, just a couple of verifications were required on questions. All automated and nothing financial/bank details were needed. Date of Birth, and recent transaction checks only. It's a shame we're so suspicious these days - I was too!! But, for once, this was a legitimate security check and I'm glad they did it.

Calll the number and you wil eventually talk to the Halifax Fraud Dept. Someone had tried to access our account via Weston Union on two occasions Halifax intercepted and contacted us thankfully .

Totally genuine
I too received a call like those listed above. I can confirm this number does indeed belong to the Halfiax Fraud Department. Someone in the States had cloned my card and had been trying to withdraw money from account. Halifax became suspicious and notified me immediately. Their action with regards to this was absolutely superb! I cannot thank them enough.

genuine
I had a call from this number to my mobile when i was trying to book train tickets which my card would not pay. I then had a call to my land line and yes it is the HALIFAX Fraud department. they called to check that i was genuine and ask if I had bought something from Dell the previous day, which I hadn't. they then stopped any more payments from this card as it had been used by someone else if I had not answered it would have cost me £400 Thanks to the Halifax they stopped all the unlawfull payments
